My Pathway reviews

Pathway Reviews are utilised by some NSW schools to support staff development and performance management.

The My Pathway Reviews section allows you to manage your personal Pathway reviews effectively.

  • Work on current reviews:
    Track progress, provide updates, and complete your active Pathway reviews.

  • Access archived reviews:
    View historical reviews for reference, analysis, or reporting purposes.

Access your Pathway reviews
  1. Navigate to My EMS.

  2. Go to Manage My Pathway Reviews.

  3. Select the My Pathway Reviews section.

Pathway review cycle overview

The Pathway Review Cycle is a collaborative process that ensures continuous professional development. Each section is designed to guide the reviewee through goal setting, progress tracking, and reflection, with input from reviewers and mentors to ensure accountability and growth. By clearly defining roles and responsibilities, the process becomes more structured and effective in achieving professional objectives.

Status indicators of the stage of the review
  • Start-Cycle (Stage one)

  • Mid-Cycle (Stage two)

  • End-Cycle completed

It involves multiple stages, each with specific tasks and responsibilities for the Reviewee, Reviewer, and Mentor (when available). Below is a breakdown of each section and the roles involved:

1. Pathway overview

This section sets the foundation for the review cycle by maintaining essential staff details and initiating the process.

  • Reviewee responsibilities:

    • Maintain and update staff details.

  • Reviewer responsibilities:

    • Provide Initial Reviewer Comments to guide the process.

    • Enter the Date Plan Started to move the review to Stage Two.

    • Enter the Placement End date to mark the review cycle as complete.

    • Select whether the Increment Approved status is granted.

  • Mentor involvement: Not applicable in this section.

2. Pathway plan

This section focuses on setting professional goals, strategies, and measures for achieving them.

  • Reviewee responsibilities:

    • Define Goals.

    • Provide Evidence to support goal achievement.

    • Outline Strategies and Timeframes for achieving goals.

    • Specify Measures and Evidence to track progress.

  • Reviewer responsibilities:

    • Provide Reviewer Feedback on the goals, strategies, and evidence.

  • Mentor responsibilities (when enabled):

    • Provide Mentor Feedback to guide the reviewee’s development.

3. Mid-Cycle review (Optional)

This optional section allows for a mid-cycle check-in to assess progress, address challenges, and adjust plans as needed.

  • Reviewee responsibilities:

    • Reflect on Goals and identify any Barriers.

    • Discuss Challenges and Areas for Development.

    • Provide Evidence of Achievements.

    • Outline Where To Next for the remainder of the cycle.

  • Reviewer responsibilities:

    • Provide Reviewer Feedback on progress and challenges.

  • Mentor responsibilities (when enabled):

    • Provide Mentor Feedback to support the reviewee’s development.

4. Annual professional discussion

This section involves a formal discussion to evaluate performance, professional responsibilities, and career development.

  • Reviewee responsibilities:

    • Reflect on Performance over the review period.

    • Discuss Professional Responsibilities and Incremental Progression.

    • Explore Career Development and Transfer Entitlement opportunities.

  • Reviewer responsibilities:

    • Provide Reviewer Feedback on performance and career progression.

  • Mentor responsibilities (when enabled):

    • Provide Mentor Feedback to guide career development.

5. Summative report

This section summarises the achievements, future priorities, and capacity-building activities undertaken during the review cycle.

  • Reviewee responsibilities:

    • Reflect on Goals Identified in the Professional Pathways Plan.

    • Outline Future Priorities and Career Planning.

    • Highlight Achievements in Addressing the Goals.

    • Detail Additional Capacity-Building Activities undertaken.

  • Reviewer responsibilities:

    • Provide Reviewer Feedback on the summative report.

  • Mentor responsibilities (when enabled):

    • Provide Mentor Feedback on the reviewee’s achievements and future plans.

6. Pathway files

This section allows for the addition and sharing of supporting documents related to the review cycle.

  • Reviewee responsibilities:

    • Add Support Files to provide evidence or documentation.

  • Reviewer responsibilities:

    • Download Support Files for review.

  • Mentor responsibilities (when enabled):

    • Download Support Files to provide informed feedback.

Summary of user roles and permissions in a Pathway review
  1. Reviewee:

    • Actively participates in setting goals, providing evidence, and reflecting on progress.

    • Engages with feedback from reviewers and mentors to improve performance.

  2. Reviewer:

    • Provides structured feedback at each stage of the review cycle.

    • Approves key milestones (e.g., increment approval, plan start/end dates).

  3. Mentor (when enabled):

    • Offers additional guidance and feedback to support the reviewee’s development.

    • Assists in addressing challenges and planning for future growth.

Filter and search for your pathway review using the toolbar
  1. Use the filter options in the top toolbar to set your desired criteria.

    • Select review period: Select from the menu options.

  2. Click Search to apply the filters and display the results.

Visual cues
  • Grey background: Indicates a disabled field where you cannot enter information.

  • Blue text: Indicates read-only text that you cannot change.

  • Number in brackets (#): In a section title, this shows the number of items added (e.g., files, comments).

  • Icons in section title: Represents the current stage of the review cycle.

Send an email to your Pathway reviewer
  1. Click the Email button.

  2. Select the recipient from the dropdown menu:

    • Reviewer: Send the email to your reviewer.

  3. Enter the email details, including the subject and message.

  4. Click Send Email to deliver the message.

Download your Pathway review as PDF
  1. Click Download.

  2. Locate the downloaded file (usually in your "Downloads" folder).

  3. Open the PDF in your default PDF viewer (e.g., Adobe Acrobat, Preview, or a web browser).

  4. Print if needed.

Start-Cycle (Stage one)

Pathway Overview section

Enter your details for your Pathway review
  1. Access Pathway Overview Section:

    • The Pathway Overview section is active by default when you begin.

  2. Enter Staff Details:

    • Fill in the required information in the Staff Details fieldset.

  3. Save Your Details:

    • Click Save to store the entered information.

Pathway Plan section

Used to define goals for the review and outline how and when you intend to achieve set goals, as well as the support required.

Outline your plan for your Pathway review
  1. Access Pathway Plan section:

    • Click on the Pathway Plan section to activate it.

  2. Enter plan details:

    • Fill in the required information in the following fieldsets:

      • Goals: Define your objectives for the review.

      • Strategy and Timeframe: Outline your approach and timeline for achieving the goals.

      • Measures and Evidence: Specify how progress will be measured and documented.

      • Support: Describe the resources or assistance needed to achieve your goals.

  3. Save your plan:

    • Click the Save Changes button to store your entries.

    • Confirm the save action to ensure your plan is updated.

Pathway Files section

Supporting files can be added by the reviewee starting from Stage One of the review cycle.

Rules for supporting files for Pathway reviews:

  • You can upload any number of files to support your review.

  • Any file type is allowed, with a maximum file size of 20MB.

  • Files cannot be removed once the review is completed.

Add a supporting file to your Pathway review
  1. Access Pathway Files section:

    • Click on the Pathway Files section to activate it.

  2. Upload a file:

    • Click the Browse button and select the file you want to upload.

    • Add a description (required).

    • Select the Stage the file relates to from the dropdown menu (required).

    • Click Upload.

  3. Confirmation:

    • The uploaded file will appear in the list within the Pathway Files section.

    • The number in the files tab title will increase to reflect the number of files added.

Remove a supporting file from your Pathway review
  • Files cannot be removed once the review has reached the completed stage.

  1. Access Pathway Files section:

    • Click on the Pathway Files section to activate it.

  2. Remove the file:

    • Locate the file you want to remove.

    • Click the Remove icon (e.g., trash bin) next to the file name.

  3. Confirm removal:

    • Confirm the action to remove the file.

Download a supporting file from your Pathway review
  1. Access Pathway Files section:

    • Click on the Pathway Files section to activate it.

  2. Download the file:

    • Click on the File Name link to download the file.

  3. Locate and use the File:

    • The downloaded file will typically be saved in your "Downloads" folder.

    • Open the file to view its contents.

    • Print the file if needed.

Complete Start-Cycle (Stage one)

Notify your reviewer to complete start-cycle of your Pathway review
  1. Prepare your review:

    • Ensure all details and plan information have been entered and reviewed.

  2. Contact your reviewer:

    • When satisfied with the information, contact your Reviewer and request them to set the Plan Started Date.

  3. Reviewer action:

    • Once the reviewer sets the Plan Started Date, the review will automatically progress to Stage Two.

    • All sections will update to reflect this change.

Mid-Cycle Review section

An optional review stage to set mid-cycle goals and document progress.

Outline your mid-cycle progress for your Pathway review
  1. Access Mid-Cycle Review section:

    • Click on the Mid-Cycle Review section to activate it.

  2. Enter your progress details:

    • Fill in the required information in the following fieldsets:

      • Goal: Reflect on your current goal and progress.

      • Barriers, Challenges, and Areas for Development: Identify any obstacles or areas needing improvement.

      • Evidence of Achievements: Provide documentation or examples of your accomplishments.

      • Where to Next?: Outline your next steps and future focus areas.

  3. Save your progress:

    • Click the Save Changes button to store your entries.

    • Confirm the save action to ensure your review is updated.

View reviewer feedback from mid-cycle of your Pathway review
  1. Access Mid-Cycle Review section:

    • Click on the Mid-Cycle Review section to activate it.

  2. Check for feedback:

    • Use the Reviewer Feedback toolbar button to view any feedback provided by your reviewer or mentor.

    • If feedback has been added, the icon in the button will appear filled.

  3. Open feedback window:

    • Click the Reviewer Feedback button to open the feedback window and review the comments.

Annual Professional Discussion section

Document your annual professional discussion of your Pathway review
  1. Access Annual Professional Discussion section:

    • Click on the Annual Professional Discussion section to activate it.

  2. Enter your discussion details:

    • Fill in the required information in the following fieldsets:

      • Performance, Professional Responsibilities, and Incremental Progression: Reflect on your performance, responsibilities, and progress toward incremental goals.

      • Career Development and Transfer Entitlement: Outline your career development plans and any transfer entitlements.

  3. Save your progress:

    • Click the Save Changes button to store your entries.

    • Confirm the save action to ensure your review is updated.

View reviewer feedback from annual professional discussion of your Pathway review
  1. Access Annual Professional Discussion section:

    • Click on the Annual Professional Discussion section to activate it.

  2. Check for feedback:

    • Use the Reviewer Feedback toolbar button to view any feedback provided by your reviewer or mentor.

    • If feedback has been added, the icon in the button will appear filled.

  3. Open feedback window:

    • Click the Reviewer Feedback button to open the feedback window and review the comments.

Summative Report section

Outline your summative report for your Pathway review
  1. Access Summative Report section:

    • Click on the Summative Report section to activate it.

  2. Enter your report details:

    • Fill in the required information in the following fieldsets:

      • Goals Identified in the Professional Pathway Plan: Summarize the goals set at the beginning of the review cycle.

      • Achievements in Addressing the Goals: Highlight your accomplishments and progress toward achieving the goals.

      • Future Priorities and Career Planning: Outline your future priorities and career development plans.

      • Additional Capacity-Building Activities: Document any extra activities undertaken to build skills or capacity.

  3. Save your report:

    • Click the Save Changes button to store your entries.

    • Confirm the save action to ensure your review is updated.

View reviewer feedback from summative report of your Pathway review
  1. Access Annual Professional Discussion section:

    • Click on the Annual Professional Discussion section to activate it.

  2. Check for feedback:

    • Use the Reviewer Feedback toolbar button to view any feedback provided by your reviewer or mentor.

    • If feedback has been added, the icon in the button will appear filled.

  3. Open feedback window:

    • Click the Reviewer Feedback button to open the feedback window and review the comments.

Pathway review completion

Once the reviewer has been notified that your review is complete, they will take the following actions:

  1. Enter Placement End Date:

    • The reviewer will enter the Placement End Date to finalise the review timeline.

  2. Determine completion status:

    • The reviewer will assess the review and determine the completion status (e.g., successful, incomplete, or other relevant status).

  3. Mark Review Cycle as Complete:

    • Once the Placement End Date is entered, the review cycle will be marked as complete.

Visual indicators of completion:

  • All sections will display an icon (e.g., a tick) to indicate they have been finalised.

  • All fields will be locked, and the text will turn blue, indicating they can no longer be edited.
